4th/5th Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers Annual Camp 1994, England.

Event
Mon, 08/01/1994 - Tue, 08/30/1994

4/5 RANGERS, commanded by Lt Col H Sturgeon, attended Annual Camp at STANTA (Stanford Training Area), near Thetford, Norfolk, for two weeks in August 1994.

The battalion deployed companies into tented accommodation adjacent to the first week's field firing range packages. During that week field firing was conducted at Stage 5 level live with exercises in defence, ambush and advance to contact. Much of the training was conducted in weather typical for Norfolk in August, thunder storms with heavy rain. The Support Group dispersed to Otterburn and Warcop ranges to live fire mortars, GPMG(SF) (machine gun (sustained fire)) and Milan anti tank missiles.

The second week culminated in a 72 hour battalion FTX (Field Test Exercise) which included advance to contact, OBUA/FIBUA (operating/fighting in built up areas) and river crossing.
