2/87th march to Seville.
Whilst serving in the Peninsular in 1813, the 2/87th took part in the winter march to Seville. Major Gough, the Commanding Officer, made the following comment about his men:
'My men have astonished the Division in marching. I never saw such a set of fellows. I came yesterday seven and twenty miles over a most wretched road, and it rained all the time, in nine hours and a half, without having one man out of his section an inch. The Guards saw us come in to their astonishment. Skerret the force commander cried out....."God damn me, my Brigade, let them look at that Regiment and be ashamed of themselves".
