5 (V) R IRISH relocate Battalion Headquarters to Belfast.

RangerCB The 5th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers relocated Battalion Headquarters from the Armagh Territorial Army (TA) Centre to the new build Hydebank TA Centre, Belfast on Waterloo Day, the 18 June. The relocation also included D Company.

The TA Centre Hydebank was declared open by The Colonel-in-Chief The Royal Irish Rangers, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester, during an official visit to the Battalion on 7 November 1990.

'I turned over one poor chap on a rocky, bloody crag on Tanngoucha. He was facing the right way, the last round of a clip in the breech and three dead Germans in front of him. His name was Duff. After all is over - and the remainder of the Empire is understandably irritated with Ireland - I hope these countless Duffs, from both the North and the South, and in all three services, will be remembered.
