Event
Fri, 08/14/1992 - Sat, 08/29/1992

NIMBadge 4 RANGERS, commanded by Lt Col E Glover R IRISH, attended Annual Camp at Stanford Training Area (STANTA) Camp, near Thetford, Norfolk from 14-29 August 1992. This Annual Camp was held during The North Irish Militia's Silver Jubilee Year.

The 1990 United Kingdom Defence Review, titled 'Options for Change', directed the restructuring of the British Armed Forces. The Royal Irish Rangers became the Royal Irish Regiment and the Regiment's Territorial Battalions, which retained the title 'Rangers', were to be reduced from two to one. 4 RANGERS became Non-Operational on 1 April 1992 and part Non-Effective from 1 October 1992. Battalion Headquarters and Headquarter Company 4 RANGERS were to remain Effective and were described as the 'static in place headquarters' for the future battalion. D (London Irish Rifles) Company moved to 8 QUEENS in preparation for becoming part of The London Regiment.

The aim of Annual Camp 1992 was to prepare for the manning of the new battalion. Training included Recruit/Soldier, Junior NCO, Assistant Instructors, NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical), Assault Pioneer, Signals, HGV Driving, Regimental First Aider, Food Handling/Catering, and HAZMAT (Hazardous Material) Handling cadres. Officers also attended a series of TEWTS (Tactical Exercises without Troops) and an Airpower Study Day at RAF Marham and The Imperial War Museum Duxford. Adventure Training for all ranks was run as a background activity in the Midlands.

The Commander United Kingdom Field Army and Inspector General of The Territorial Army, Lieutenant General Sir Michael J Wilkes KCB CBE visited the battalion at STANTA.
