North Irish Brigade Depot opens at St Patrick's Barracks, Ballymena

Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templer officially opened The North Irish Brigade Depot at St Patrick's Barracks, Ballymena on 15 June 1965. The North Irish Brigade Depot had moved from Eglinton to St Patrick's Barracks, Ballymena on 2 April 1964.

However, the official opening of the Depot did not take place until 15 June 1965. Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templer performed the official opening and is seen here inspecting a Guard from the 1st Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers commanded by Captain C P R Ryall. Sergeant Tom McKinney falls under the Field Marshal’s scrutiny. The latter would continue to serve in The Royal Irish Rangers and The Ulster Defence Regiment, retiring as a Major.
